"An Oregon artist, I paint to understand, enjoy and share the excitement of seeing the visual festival of light, color, texture, form and design in our world. Observing and painting is a meditation, an active appreciation, a way of connecting intuitively with nature, the source of life. Curiosity about how it all fits together and how I can best communicate what I discover keeps me continually exploring places, mediums and methods."
"Painting impressionistic celebrations of this area, I am often inspired when a certain special light transforms the familiar into the uniquely poetic and magical. Whether I turn to the peace of fields and beaches, the strength of trees in shadow, the spirited persistence of wildflowers or the flickering light of ponds and gardens, I feel refreshed, exhilarated and enriched. Working on site and from sketches and photos, I absorb a scene, focus on the mood, simplify the important features, choose the media, and begin to visualize a way to communicate feelings and ideas with colors and shapes. The earth is the source; the light is the catalyst."
